Students
In February 2022, eight graduates from Hope Christian Academy were all awarded scholarships to study at University Espoir, a ministry of Calvary Chapel based in Port-au-Prince. Back in 2010 we could never have imagined that some of the orphaned and abandoned children would graduate from High School and be offered places at University. Yet 6 young men and 2 women have led the way, showing incredible resilience and determination in the most challenging of circumstances, overcoming poverty, political unrest, repeated school closures, and then the Covid pandemic in order to achieve their dream.

Our vision from the outset was to 'inspire kids to be world changers', and having 8 Hope Christian Academy graduates achieve places at University was a massive step towards seeing that vision become a reality. With a university degree, they can go on to be the leaders that Haiti so desperately needs. These young people give us real hope that Haiti can be lifted out of the poverty, corruption and moral failure that has led to so many problems in recent years.
Cherestal Rogener, the Secondary School Maths and Science teacher and individual responsible for teacher training and development in the school (Pedagogy), helped prepare the graduates for University and is now supporting them through their studies. We contacted him to thank him for all he has done, and he sent us this reply:
"Thank God, he gives me health. Our country is in trouble, thank God for your support. Because it would be more difficult if you did not meet our needs. Once again thank God for you" |
Since these 8 students lead the way, a further 6 graduates from Hope Christian Academy have also passed their entrance examinations and are waiting to start University once funding is in place.
In February 2022 we initiated a Student Fund to cover the board and lodging at University (currently $700 per annum) and to provide each student with a laptop. Thanks to your generosity, we quickly raised sufficient funds to purchase laptops and support the initial 8 students through their time at University. However we still need funding to support the next 6 student. If you would be willing to make a donation, you can find our bank details on the how to give page (please put Student Fund as the reference). If you would like to find out more, then you can contact us via email.
You will find more information about the initial 8 students below.
